RIP drama

My son's dear cavy passed away from an ongoing infection that we had been fighting for several months. He had seemed healthy other than a puss boil that sprouted on his side the day before the July 4-H show day, and we continued to treat the healing wound.

It was a sad time for all of us :( Just like the dogs, this rodent carved out a place in our hearts and lives with his patient and engaging personality. Well, patient that is until food was available, THEN, he must have veggies - FRESH VEGGIES, AND NOW!!! We made jokes about cavies being food and the fact that they are judged with rabbits - also a food animal - but this guy was always a friend first.

Will we again venture into the world of cavy showing? I don't know, it all depends on what my kids want to do...

  2. Sorry to hear about your loss. We have a guinea pig and we know what great pets they are. Ours is as much a part of the family as our dog! You will have many fond memories of yours I'm sure.

  5. thank you for all of your concern. He is fine. . . we didn't shield the two young boys when we had to take Brandi to her final trip to the vet. And they helped bury her, after we brought her home. It was NOT what the vet wanted but I know it was best for them. . .

Dad & son buried Drama in the flower bed that was his favorite to hide in and snack on plants.

  6. That is sad. I'm sorry to hear about the infection. Although I'm not familiar with cavies at all, however we do have a bunny the neighbor gave us for my 3 year old. I'm hoping the bunny lives long enough for him to a bunny project as a cloverbud. :)

  7. I'm sorry at the loss of such a little friend. I remember the first time I "met" a cavvy. I could not believe how clever and engaging they are. I especailly love how their mouths look when they yawn. That is so funny. Very cool little creatures. Have you shared "The Rainbow Bridge" with your kids? If you need a copy, I have one I can send to you.

It sounds like Drama had a great life with lots of good food memories and travel.
